perpetual slide down a wandering

wizardly spot

where lozenges don’t

do the advertised

trick &

people blazon their bodies

of no substance

into singular morphing

morphine

drugged ally gone dumb

because words tumble

& bustle about landing

where they cannot

because there is no hear

here hear

to take it in

all is unqualified and wholly

mitigated

what dastardly inconvenience

what spine-tingling

abundance

because when there is no point

around which to

pivot

a flotation sends you into

orbits of orbits

around no definite

center

resulting in tangent upon tangent upon

tan

gent

the landing crew took an unexpected

break

the seismograph forgot

to register

the talk of disaster

tried to reduce

itself

to genetics & succeeded simply

to wash ourselves

of the grief

the guilt

our part in this sorry

circus of our creation

where serendipity wishes

against a control

mechanism driven deep

into neural

desire—

we do what we wouldn’t

(some part crying for

something else some

unreasonable issue

some visceral response against

the assertion of

what is “supposed”

to be

substance

whistles
